Tips for Removing Urine Smell from Ceramic Floors
When it comes to eliminating urine odors, ceramic floors can be a conundrum. It’s actually not the ceramic tiles that are the trouble, but the porous grout in the joints. If you’ve been struggling with urine odors on your ceramic floors, we have the solution! Here are our 4 top tips for removing urine odors from any ceramic floor. Plus a couple of bonus pro tips ☺ Tip #1 Use a urine odor neutralizer. Removing the smell of urine from any surface requires the right products. Ceramic floors are no exception. A conventional cleaning product will certainly leave the floor clean, but it won’t necessarily eliminate the pee smell. And spraying the room with an air deodorizer will only temporarily mask the urine odor. To remove the smell of urine completely and permanently, you need an odor neutralizer that’s specifically designed to neutralize the odor-causing molecules in urine. Tip #2 Treat the grout, not the tile. Grout is highly porous, making it a great odor-absorber. We recommend using Purodora Urine Odor Neutralizer, which is specifically designed to eliminate the smell of animal and human urine on all sorts of surfaces in and around the house, including porous grout. It eliminates urine odors on contact – even those that have been around for years. Why use Purodora Urine Odor Neutralizer: Guaranteed to neutralize urine smells instantly and permanentlyEasy to use; just spray and walk awayAlcohol-based: works on contact and evaporates quickly; no risk of moldSafe for people and petsLeaves behind a fresh citrus scent How to remove urine smells from ceramic floors Locate the area where the urine odor is coming from and enlarge the treatment area by about a foot. Use a squirt bottle (see photo below) to apply Purodora Urine Odor Neutralizer directly to the grout.Wipe the ceramic tiles dry with a clean cloth. No need to rinse or remove Purodora Urine Odor Neutralizer from the grout. It’s alcohol-based and will evaporate quickly.Ventilate the room during treatment. Tip #3 Make sure you get ALL of the urine. If you can still detect the smell of urine after an initial treatment with Purodora Urine Odor Neutralizer, it means there’s still some urine somewhere on the floor. If the floor is in a bathroom, a good place to look (or rather to sniff) is around the bathtub and toilet. If the floor is in a kitchen, the urine may have seeped under the lower cabinets, walls or even a patio door. Underneath baseboard heaters is another good place to investigate. Bonus Pro Tip #1 If there are any cracks in the surface, such as under the baseboard trim, between the boards in floors or between the floor and a lower cabinet, then there’s a good chance the urine seeped in beneath. Instead of spraying, use a squirt bottle to inject the product between the cracks so that it can reach the urine and neutralize the smell. Bonus Pro Tip #2 If your pet peed around a baseboard heater, your best option is to remove the heater so that you can properly spray the wall behind it where the pee has pooled. Never spray Purodora Urine Odor Neutralizer directly inside the heater. The product is alcohol-based and could potentially cause a spark. Tip #4 Make sure you eliminate ALL of the smell. If the urine odor has been present for a long time, or if your pet has urinated on the same spot several times, the urine has probably seeped deep into the grout. A single treatment with Purodora Urine Odor Neutralizer may not be enough. A second treatment will allow the product to penetrate deeper and reach the remaining urine. Pee happens. Be ready. Get Rid of Damp Smell in House
All homes need a certain amount of humidity to be healthy. It’s when the humidity level gets too high for too long that things get smelly. Here are 7 expert tips for eliminating that unwanted damp smell in basements, bathrooms and laundry rooms – as well as on clothes, sofas, carpets and even in ventilation systems! And see which odor removal products are safe for you and your family. Tip 1: Identify the source of the damp smell If you’re noticing a damp smell in your home, the very first thing you should do is try to identify and correct the source of the problem as quickly as possible. Until you do, the damp smell will just keep returning. Be on the lookout for tell-tale signs such as damp walls and floors, condensation in windows, mold in corners or white streaks on concrete. These can all be indications of a moisture problem that needs fixing. While you’re inspecting your home, keep the following in mind: Have you ever had a water infiltration problem? Are there any cracks in the foundation or leaky windows? Is the house standing on mostly loamy soil?Is the plumbing in good condition? Did the sewer ever back up?Is the distance between the gutters and the home to regulation? Once you’ve identified and corrected the source of your humidity problem, you can begin treating the affected surfaces with the right odor removal products. The good news is that you only need two products. Tip 2: Remove stale odors from closets and clothing First, check the closet for mildew and signs of water damage. If you find any signs, you’ll obviously need to address this bigger issue. If you don’t see any traces of mold or water infiltration, clean your closet with Purodora Damp Odor Neutralizer – a cleaner and odor neutralizer specifically formulated for musty and damp odors. Check the clothes as well, since they can sometimes turn musty if left untouched in closets for a long time. To neutralize musty smell on clothes, spray Purodora Smoke Odor Neutralizer for Fabrics directly on clothes and allow to air dry. No need to rinse. (Don’t be fooled by the name; Purodora Smoke Odor Neutralizer for Fabrics also does a great job of eliminating musty odors on all fabrics.) Tip 3: Remove damp smell from floors and walls If a room in your house or apartment smells damp, treating the walls and floors can often help. Dilute one part of Purodora Damp Odor Neutralizer in five parts of water and wash the floors and walls. Allow to air dry. No need to rinse. Tip 4: Neutralize the damp smell in the ventilation system The ducts in a ventilation system or air exchanger can sometimes develop unpleasant odors that eventually spread throughout the home. Dilute ½ cup (120 ml) of Purodora Damp Odor Neutralizer in 1 gallon (4 L) and spray the ventilation or air exchanger filters. Then turn on the ventilation system or the air conditioner for one hour. You can repeat this treatment on a regular basis to keep the inside of your home smelling clean and fresh. Tip 5: Remove the damp smell in carpets If you have a carpet in a room with an odor problem, chances are it has absorbed the smell, too. Mix ½ cup (120 ml) of Purodora Damp Odor Neutralizer in 1 gallon (4 L) and add to a carpet cleaner. Clean the carpet with the machine and use fans to dry. (Before cleaning the carpet, we recommend you test a non-visible area first to ensure the product won’t discolor the carpet.) Tip 6: Get rid of damp odor on upholstered furniture If you have upholstered furniture in a damp basement or room, it will probably develop a musty smell, too. Spray Purodora Smoke Odor Neutralizer for Fabrics directly on the fabric. Press down on the cushions with your hand to help the product penetrate deeply. Let the product work and then air dry. If the musty smell has seeped really deep into the cushions, inject the product with a syringe and needle directly into the cushions. It may sound strange, but it really works! Did you know? Purodora Smoke Odor Neutralizer for Fabrics is an alcohol-based odor removed. That means it won’t damage fabrics or create mildew in cushions when injected. It works as soon as it comes into contact with the odor-causing molecules, and then quickly evaporates to leave the cushion dry. Tip 7: Get rid of damp odor on concrete or untreated wood To eliminate the damp smell on concrete or rough wood walls and floors, dilute one part of Purodora Damp Odor Neutralizer in five parts of water and spray the diluted product directly on the surface. Then let the product do its thing. To treat really old, deep-set odors, simply repeat the treatment. No more damp smell! Eliminating the damp smell in your home is just the beginning. Eager for your home to smell “home-sweet-home” again? Read on! In this guide: What’s the best cigarette smell remover: Neutralizer or deodorizer? How odor neutralizers workThe right technique for removing cigarette smell in the house Removing cigarette smell from hard surfacesRemoving cigarette smell from fabric surfacesRemoving cigarette smell from ambient airRemoving cigarette smell from animalsWhat to do if you still smell cigarette smoke after a few treatmentsGetting more bang for your buck with multi-purpose odor destroyersWhere to find Purodora products Pro Tip Remove cigarette smell from any surface in your home – even the ambient air Cigarette smoke can infiltrate just about anything. Removing that lingering smoke smell from the air can be especially difficult because the odor can make its way into the ventilation system and even in between the walls. But with the right products and methods – and a little patience – it can be done. Below we explain how to eliminate the smell of tobacco from virtually any hard or soft surface in your home, even the ambient air. What’s the best cigarette smell remover: Neutralizer or deodorizer? The particle that gives off that strong, lingering cigarette smell (nicotine) can seep into any hard or absorbent surface such as walls, floors, ceilings, cabinets, fabrics and even the air. When it comes to eliminating any unwanted smell – tobacco or otherwise – you have to locate the source of the odor and neutralize it. Unfortunately, few products sold in stores are odor neutralizers; they simply mask or deodorize the smell. Some merely create an unpleasant mix of odors that can actually make the situation worse. Even if these products do work for a while, the cigarette smell will eventually return. To completely eliminate stubborn cigarette odors permanently, you need a product containing an odor neutralizer that’s specific to the nicotine molecule creating the odor. Purodora products use advanced odor-neutralizing technology to eliminate even the most stubborn odors on contact (including products that eliminate skunk smell). How odor neutralizers work Purodora odor neutralizers quickly eliminate all types of smoke odor problems, including cigar and cannabis. They eliminate odors completely, quickly and permanently – even if the odor has been around for months or years. As soon as the product comes into contact with the source of the odor, it molecularly binds to it to neutralize the odor. The odor instantly disappears. The only smell that’s left behind is a light pleasant scent. See the science behind this advanced odor neutralizing technology and why Purodora products are guaranteed to work! Pro Tip The key is to make sure the odor neutralizer reaches ALL of the cigarette odor To eliminate the smell completely and permanently, odor neutralizers must come into contact with the entire source of the odor. For deeply embedded odors, a few treatments may be needed for the product to reach and destroy cigarette odors completely. The right technique for removing cigarette smell in the house Having the right products is important, but they will only take you so far. For best results, you also need to use the right technique. Below are the best odor-removing techniques and products that are proven to work. Pro Tip Before tackling the cigarette odor problem in your home, look for any yellowish streaks on the walls. If you decide to get new filters: Spray the new filters with 1 to ½ cup (30 to 120 ml) of Purodora Smoke Odor Neutralizer for Hard Surfaces diluted in 1 gallon (4 L) of water. Install filters while still wet with product and run the system continuously to distribute the product through the system ducts. How to Get Rid of Cat or Dog Pee Smell on Sofa
It’s frustrating whenever a dog or cat pees somewhere they’re not supposed to – like on the sofa. Here’s how you can salvage your sofa and your relationship with your pet. Our top animal expert shares her top tips for eliminating pet urine smells from fabric or leather sofa, quickly, safely and for good. Tip #1 It’s all about the ingredients, not the effort. We get calls from frustrated pet owners all the time, saying they tried every homemade recipe known to humankind, but with little results. Only products containing an odor neutralizer specific to the odor-causing molecule in animal urine can permanently destroy the smell of urine completely. Other products will only work temporarily, or simply mask the urine odor with scent that will eventually dissipate, leaving the pee smell behind. Tip #2 Treat the inside of the cushion. Gravity works on urine, too. To get rid of dog or cat pee smells from a sofa, you need to treat not only the surface of the cushions, but the inside padding as well. You will need to inject the odor neutralizer into the cushions with a needle and syringe. (If you’ve never tried this odor-removing technique before, you’ll be amazed by how easy and effective it is. Just a few squirts and no more pee smell!) Tip #3 Avoid water-based products. Injecting a water-based product such as an enzyme or bacteria-based product into a thick cushion is never a good idea because it can cause the cushion to mold. Instead, use an alcohol-based product that evaporates quickly to avoid the risk of mold or mildew. We recommend using Purodora Urine Odor Neutralizer. Here’s why: Specifically designed to neutralize the smell of any animal urine permanentlyEasy to use; just spray and walk awayAlcohol-based: works on contact and evaporates quickly; no risk of mildewingWon’t discolor fabricsSafe for people and petsLeaves behind a fresh citrus scent Tip #4 Apply odor neutralizer locally. One of the most common mistakes we hear from pet owners is that they sprayed or injected the product all over the sofa. It’s extremely rare for a couch to be completely covered in urine. When treating with a product like Purodora Urine Odor Neutralizer, there’s no need to treat the entire couch, only the source of the odor. Eliminating pet urine odor from a fabric sofa – step-by-step instructions Step 1. Use your nose to locate the exact location of the urine odor. Step 2. Make a circle with a string around the affected area. Make the circumference of the circle 4 to 5 inches larger than you think it needs to be to give you more room to maneuver. Sometimes the urine molecules will spread beyond the visible pee stain. Step 3. Inject the product at 1-inch (2.5-cm) intervals. Start at the outer edge of the circle and work your way toward the center. Pro Tip When injecting the product into the cushions, make complete circles as you work your way into the center. That way you won’t have to worry about missing a spot. The odor neutralizer has to reach all of the odor-causing urine molecules to completely destroy all of the urine odor. Step 4. Spray Purodora Urine Odor Neutralizer (at a distance of 10 cm) over the entire affected surface area of the couch. Step 5. Air out the room and allow the product to work. No rinsing or drying required. Bonus tip: You can also follow these same steps if your cat or dog pees on your fabric car seats. Pro Tip What to do if Purodora Urine Odor Neutralizer leaves a dark ring on fabrics Alcohol-based products like Purodora Urine Odor Neutralizer can leave a dark ring on some colored fabrics where the dye has not set properly. No need to worry! Simply rub the fabric with a damp cloth and the stain will disappear immediately. Eliminating pet urine odor from a leather sofa – step-by-step instructions Follow the above instructions, but for step 3, inject the product through the seams only to avoid damaging the leather. Do your best to inject the product as deep into the cushion as possible. Bonus tip: You can also follow these steps if your cat or dog pees on your leather car seats. 5 good things to know about removing urine odors from leather sofas Before starting any treatment, make sure the sofa is indeed genuine leather and not synthetic leather. Alcohol-based products may cause imitation leather to discolor. If you’re certain the sofa is leather, always test the product on a non-visible area first to ensure it doesn’t discolor. Never spray products directly on leather. Instead, apply with a clean cloth and rub gently. Then remove the product after the indicated time with a clean, wet cloth.Leather is absorbent. Urine will soak through the leather surface and into the cushion.Leather absorbs odors more deeply than fabric, so several treatments may be needed to completely get rid of the pee smell. Removing cat or dog pee smell from floors Urine can sometimes leak through the sofa (either through the cushion or down the side) and onto the floor below. If you can still detect a pee smell after treating your sofa with Purodora Urine Odor Neutralizer, move the sofa aside and take a sniff of the floor below. If you can smell urine, simply spray the floor with Purodora Urine Odor Neutralizer. If the floor is made of wood or laminate planks, use a spout bottle to squirt the product between the boards so that it can reach the urine underneath. Because the product is alcohol-based, it will neutralize the odor-causing molecules on contact and then quickly evaporate without causing the boards to swell or warp. Pee happens. Be ready. Rare is the dog or cat that has never had an accident. Get Purodora Urine Odor Neutralizer today so that if your pet suddenly decides to do his business on the sofa, you’ll be able to act right away. You and your family will be glad you did!Get rid of any odor problem We want you to be completely satisfied with our products. Four odor-absorbing surfaces in the home and how to treat them
When faced with an odour problem, the first thing to do is to use your sense of smell to determine where the source of the odour is coming from. Even if the odor is present in the ambient air, its source is somewhere. To effectively neutralize this bad odor, it's important to treat the source with an odor neutralizer. Many surfaces in the home retain odors, and not all of them can be treated in the same way. Here are four surfaces in the home that retain odors and how to treat them to make the smell go away. How to remove odours from ceramic tiles Many people think that ceramic floors don't absorb unpleasant odours. This isn't entirely untrue, since it's not the ceramic tile that will retain odours, but rather the grout. In fact, grout is a porous surface that absorbs liquids (such as animal urine) and retains unpleasant odours. If you wish to eliminate an odor from a ceramic floor, you need to insert the product (in the case of urine, Urine Odor Neutralizer) directly onto the ceramic joint so that the product follows the same path as the urine. In order to apply the right amount of product, we also recommend using a bottle with a spout (see image). This ensures that just enough product is applied. How to remove odor from a wood floor An odor on a wood floor is peculiar to treat, because the odor has not been absorbed by the boards themselves, as they are varnished. Instead, the liquid will seep between the boards and find its way under the floor. That's where the bad odour comes from, so that's where it needs to be treated (the source). As with ceramic flooring, you'll need to insert the Urine Odor Neutralizer (in the case of urine odours) between the planks of the wood floor, using a bottle with a spout. This way, the product will follow the same path as the urine and neutralize the bad smell. Be careful not to use a water-based product, as this can cause the floor to swell. Urine Odor Neutralizer is an alcohol-based product that evaporates quickly, so it won't swell the wood. How to remove odors from concrete Did you know that concrete is an odor-absorbing surface? Like ceramic grout, concrete is a porous material that absorbs liquids and retains unpleasant odors. Treating it against a bad odor is simple: just spray Urine Odor Neutralizer on the surface and let it dry naturally. It's important to understand that the liquid follows the law of gravity, so it sinks deeper into the concrete over time. A second application of the product may therefore be necessary if the odor persists after the first treatment. How to neutralize odors on leather We know that fabric sofas and chairs absorb odors, but the same is true of leather surfaces. Quite often, the liquid will penetrate the leather and seep into the cushion, and that's where you need to go for the treatment to remove the bad smell. Whether it's the smell of cigarettes or urine, the treatment is similar. The product (Urine Odor Neutralizer in the case of urine, and Smoke Odor Neutralizer for Fabrics and Ambient Air in the case of cigarettes) is inserted into the cushion using a syringe and needle. Then gently rub the surface with a clean cloth that has been sprayed with the product to be used to treat the leather surface. However, there are a number of reasons why you need to be careful with the treatment. When performing the odor-neutralizing treatment, make sure the surface is genuine leather, not leatherette. As imitation leather contains a lot of dye, the application of an alcohol-based product could cause discoloration. A test should therefore be carried out on a non-visible surface before applying the full treatment. What's more, when inserting the product into the cushion, you can't stick a syringe and needle just anywhere, as this can create small holes. Instead, the product must be inserted through the cushion's seams or in less visible places.
Stinky sofa: the 4 most common odors and how to get rid of them
The living room is probably one of the rooms where we spend the most time in our home. It's the ideal meeting place for family and friends, and the perfect place to relax after a long day. However, it's hard to relax and have a good time in this room when the sofa is giving off unwanted odors. Here are some common couch odors and how to remove them permanently. Removing the smell of animal urine If you have a cat or dog at home, it may have escaped onto your couch once or twice. Before removing the smell of cat or dog urine, it's important to understand that the urine has seeped into the cushion. To eliminate the odour completely, you need to insert the product so that it touches the source of the smell. The product to use to remove animal urine odor is Urine Odor Neutralizer. This is an alcohol-based neutralizer specifically designed to completely eliminate the odor of urine, feces or vomit. If you apply Urine Odor Neutralizer to a colored fiber whose color is not well bonded to the fabric, it may leave a darker ring. Take a damp cloth and rub it in, and the ring will disappear! To neutralize odours on a fabric couch, start by marking out the area affected by the odour with a small string. Then insert 3 to 5 ml of Urine Odour Neutralizer (using a syringe and needle) inside this circle, starting from the outside inwards and leaving a 1” gap between each insertion (see image below). This technique applies the product to the entire surface of the source. Then spray Urine Odour Neutralizer over the surface and leave to work. As this product is alcohol-based, it won't damage your sofa by creating stains or mildew, as would a water-based product. What's more, your sofa will dry very quickly. If your sofa is made of leather, the technique is similar, but instead of injecting the Urine Odour Neutralizer directly onto the leather, we advise you to go through the seams so as not to create holes in the leather. For the last part of the treatment, instead of spraying the Urine Odour Neutralizer directly onto the surface, we recommend that you apply the product to a cloth and rub the surface with it. Then wipe off with a dry cloth. It's also important to test the product on an inconspicuous area to make sure there's no discoloration. Eliminate cigarette odor If you've bought a used sofa, it may have a cigarette smell if the previous owners smoked. To remove cigarette odor permanently, we recommend the use of our Smoke Odor Neutralizer for Fabrics and Ambient Air, which is designed to neutralize cigarette odor. For fabric sofas, simply spray Smoke Odor Neutralizer for Fabrics and Ambient Air onto the fabric and leave to work. If the tobacco smell is strong, the cushions may have absorbed the odor. As with urine odour, we suggest you insert the Smoke Odour Neutralizer for Fabrics into the cushions with a syringe and needle, and spray the product back onto the top. It's important to push into the cushions with your hands after treatment, so that the product penetrates deep into the couch. To neutralize a tobacco odor on a leather couch, you need to understand that leather is an odor-absorbing material. Spray Smoke Odor Neutralizer for Fabrics and Ambient Air on a cloth and rub the surface with it. Then wipe the top of the treated leather with a dry cloth. If the cigarette odor persists, you'll need to use a syringe and needle to inject the product deep into the seams of the sofa. Remove perspiration odor If you have teenagers at home, they may be putting their feet up on the cushion, and as they do so, the place where they put their feet gives off the smell of perspiration. To eliminate the smell of perspiration, without damaging your sofa or creating stains, we recommend you use Perspiration Odour Neutralizer. As with cigarette odors, you need to spray the product on the area where the odor is coming from and leave it to work. If the odor is on a leather couch, simply rub the surface with a cloth previously sprayed with Perspiration Odor Neutralizer and then wipe with a dry cloth. Eliminate dog odors If you have a dog at home and it often lies on the couch, it may give off a doggy smell after a while. The product to use to eliminate this odor is Pet Bedding Odor Neutralizer. This is an odor neutralizer designed to remove dog odor from fabrics. As this is a water-based product, we recommend you always test a small, inconspicuous area before spraying the entire surface. For fabric sofas, simply spray the product directly onto the dog-scented surface and leave to work.If the odor is coming from a leather couch, spray Pet Bedding Odor Neutralizer on a clean cloth and gently rub the area affected by the odor with it. Then wipe off with a clean cloth. Unlike deodorizers, which mask odors, our product eliminates them at source, so they disappear completely. You can use Pet Bedding Odor Neutralizer at any time, even if your couch doesn't give off unwanted odors. Its pleasant juniper and pear scent will refresh your home, creating a harmonious living environment!
The infallible trick to say goodbye to farmhouse smell
If you work on or own a farm or stable, you know that the smell can cling to your clothes or even seep into your home. Many customers have told us that farm odor is a stubborn odor that they have trouble getting rid of, even after a good cleaning of clothes or the house. We understand this problem, and we know that people who work on farms need fast, effective solutions because they're so busy. If you're facing this problem, here's the foolproof trick that will help you get rid of that bad smell. Removing farmhouse odors from clothing Even if you work on a farm, your clothes don't have to smell that bad, especially when they come out of the laundry. To remove this stubborn odor, we recommend using (D-500) Hard, Non-Porous Surfaces Disinfectant & Animal Odor Neutralizer. Simply pour 125 ml of (D-500) into the washer water with the clothes and do your load as usual. In this case, (D-500) replaces your conventional cleaner. This product is specifically designed to neutralize ammonia or farmhouse odors embedded in garment fibers.Tip: Did you know that (D-500) Hard, Non-Porous Surfaces Disinfectant & Animal Odor Neutralizer can also be used to clean your horses' saddle pads? Simply pour 125 ml of the product into the washer (it replaces the conventional cleaner) and clean the saddle. Leave to dry. Removing farmhouse odours in the home To effectively eliminate farmyard odors in your home or surrounding air, we recommend using (D-500). This product is both a cleaner and a neutralizer against animal and farm odors. Simply dilute 90 to 120 ml of this product in four liters of water and use to clean floors. To treat the air in your home, dilute 30 ml of (D-500) in one liter of water and spray onto the filters of your air exchanger, air conditioner or ventilation system. Then turn on the unit for one hour. This allows the product to travel throughout the house, eliminating the odor that is encrusted in the air ducts and in the ambient air of your home. If you don't have a ventilation system, you can spray (D-500) (30 ml in one liter of water) on a clean cloth, hang it on a standing fan and turn it on for one hour in every room with a bad odor. Unlike air fresheners, which temporarily mask unpleasant odors, (D-500) eliminates unpleasant odors at the source for long-lasting results.
